The Stock, bond, and commodity markets around the world have been rattled after Russia declared war on Ukraine sending stocks tumbling and crude oil prices surging. Indian stock market’s benchmark indices, Nifty 50 and Sensex slipped around 3 percent each, hitting their lowest levels since December 2021.

At 13:30 P.M.  the barometer index, the BSE Sensex, tumbled 1,926.73 points or 3.37% at  55,305.33. The Nifty 50 index slumped 596.10 points or 3.49% at 16,467.15.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index skid 4.56%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index dropped 4.99%.

Sellers outnumbered buyers. On the BSE, 224 shares rose and 3,094 shares fell. A total of 87 shares were unchanged.

Brent crude is hovering 7 years high at 100 dollars a barrel mark, fearing disruption of Russian energy exports. India imports more than 80% of its oil requirements and higher crude oil prices could widen the Current Account Deficit.

A short while ago, the BSE Sensex, was down 1876 points or 3.28 percent to 55,356. The Nifty 50 index fell 574 points or 3.36 percent to 16,490.
