Need to support innovation, new technology in case of failures due to genuine reasons: Gadkari
Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday batted for giving protection to engineers and contractors attempting new technologies if they meet with failure due to bonafide reasons. He said this was necessary to market innovation in building technologies.
Addressing a webinar on Bridge Deck Erection Technology, Gadkari said there is enormous uncertainty from the government system to adopt new technologies and promote innovations in project implementation.
"If there is an accident in the implementation of projects by people that are utilizing new technologies, carrying out experiments and using great effective practices, we need to support them just if the bonafide aren't doubtful... None wishes to take responsibility for innovation and research; how can we expect these to happen. Negative strategy, particularly in the government system, creates negativity," Gadkari said.
He said there is a need to adopt global best and successful practices with no hesitation, and the coverages must be conducive to encourage innovation to find alternative materials to steel and cement for building jobs. The minister said the focus has to be on the reduction of construction price.
